Davies are a specialist professional services and technology firm, working with highly regulated and global insurance and legal businesses.

Challenges

Policy Artificial Intelligence Proof-of-Concept (PoC) application which used AI/ML to compare issued insurance documents with original templates was not-fit-for-purpose.

Task

Engaged as Product Owner and Team Leader of data scientists, engineers and architects to ensure the existing PoC product met the needs of an existing client. Additionally, create the foundations for a new fully-fledged market ready enterprise product that should sit within a governance structure of service warranty levels expected of a Software-as-a-Service offering.

Actions

• Revamped PoC production workflow of data ingestion, extraction, transformation, comparison modelling logic, automation and reporting in order to streamline each sub-process and increase delivery transparency
• Restructured the PoC product hierarchy and also used a MoSCoW prioritisation MVP approach to assessing candidate templates to compare and therefore ensured regular client delivery based on balancing complexity, volume and value
• Roadmapped future PoC improvements to accuracy, speed and scale of issued document ingestion and comparison logic within AI/ML balancing both time and cost
• Interfaced between various delivery teams and internal stakeholder management of external insurance clients.

Results

• Successfully delivered revamped PoC product to meet the needs of the existing end-client
• Building trust from the product and delivery approach taken for the PoC, enabled managing end-client expectations for a staggered delivery. This in turn meant that they benefited from the regular incremental value.
• Building on experience gained on the PoC and using a full transparency approach, laid foundations for a new Cloud SaaS.Net based product
• Managed handover to newly onboarded permanent Product Manager to progress future improvements.
